Teeth have been filled with silver (amalgam) fillings for over a hundred years. In the past 15 years, tooth-colored resins have been developed that are stronger and more aesthetic. At Oak Ridge Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, we routinely use tooth-colored fillings to replace old, discolored silver fillings. The resin-based fillings require less tooth structure to be removed, form a stronger bond, and the patient doesn't have to show any fillings while talking or eating. Virtually all of the fillings placed in our office are made of tooth-colored resins that are bonded to the tooth for greater strength and longevity.
