SERVICES :: CROWNS
Do you have a broken tooth? Is your tooth discolored? Do you have a tooth that is mostly made up of fillings? Are you missing one or more teeth? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, you may be a candidate for a crown. A crown is used to cover a tooth and restore it to its normal shape and size. A crown can make your tooth stronger and improve its appearance.
Crowns are made of porcelain and metal. Most crowns have a metal base made from an alloy or mixture of gold, platinum, palladium and other similar metals. The metal is covered with layers of porcelain so it resembles a natural tooth. Some crowns are made of only porcelain. These are generally used for front teeth. In some situations, all gold crowns are used for back teeth.
Crowns are generally a two visit procedure. At the first visit, the tooth is shaped to fit the crown, an impression is made and a temporary crown made of acrylic is placed on the tooth. At the second visit, the temporary crown is removed and the permanent crown is cemented in place.
