Julie is originally from Canada, and has recently become a United States citizen. Julie is a Registered Dental Hygienist, graduating from Canadore College in 1985. She obtained her North Carolina license in 2000, and joined our team at Oak Ridge Family Dentistry soon after that. Over her 26 years as both a hygienist and a dental assistant, she has devoted many hours to continuing education seminars and training in order to provide her patients with the most innovative and top notch care available.
Julie has lived in Oak Ridge for ten years, is married with two children who are now both in college. An avid animal lover, Julie enjoys working with horses and participating in horse shows and equestrian events. She also enjoys cooking in her free time, and as many of our patients can tell you, she is quite good at it. Ask Julie about some of her latest culinary achievements at your next appointment!
Maria Swift
Graduated in 1994 as a Licensed Dental Assistant at Guilford Technical Community College and she worked as a certified assistant for an oral surgeon several years before going back to dental hygiene school. She has been practicing for 16 years and joined Dr. DeVaney’s dental team in January 2010. Maria prides herself on taking the time and having the experience required to give her patients the best care possible.
Maria lives in Greensboro, is married, and has two boys that both attend local schools. She is known as a great gardener and can always give out some helpful tips on how to make your flowers bloom at their peak!
Linda Nelson
Linda is the New Patient Coordinator at Oak Ridge Family Dentistry, and schedules our hygiene appointments. In her 25 years working in dental office administration, Linda has become an expert in scheduling appointments for patients that will work with their busy lifestyles as well as obtaining patient insurance benefit information. She will communicate with all patients to assure that everyone has a firm understanding of how each person’s treatment will be delivered and patients can know what to expect. Her experience is second to none!
Linda is married with one daughter and enjoys reading, church activities, and sharing time with friends and family. The friendly smile that will greet you when you come through our front door, and offer you coffee or a bottle of water, will be Linda’s!
Brett DeVaney
Brett is our office manager and treatment/financial coordinator. Since joining Oak Ridge Family Dentistry in 2009, he has made it his goal to help our patients understand the scheduling and coordinating of their dental treatment needs so that the patient has a clear view of how their treatment will proceed. Brett will assist you in understanding your treatment options and financial arrangements, file your insurance claims and deal with the insurance companies on your behalf to make sure you receive the most from your dental plan.
Brett is married with two daughters and enjoys family time and outside activities at his home less than 3 miles from our office. He is known in his neighborhood as the guy who turned his back yard in to a playground, sometimes having up to 8 or 9 neighborhood children playing with his two girls on the swings, trampoline, and play set!
Valarie Yoemans
Graduated from Guilford Technical Community College in 1999 as a Certified Dental assistant, and earned her DANB Certification in 2000. She is also certified and trained in Coronal Polishing, Radiography, and Invisalign Clear Braces. Valarie has been the direct assistant to Dr. DeVaney for 8 years at Oak Ridge Family Dentistry, applying her knowledge and experience every day to give her patients the very best in restorative and cosmetic dental treatment. She has completed countless hours of continuing education and training to stay on the forefront of dental technology and procedures.
Valarie is married with one daughter, and is an active hunter. She enjoys comparing hunting experiences with our patients, and even teaches firearm safety and proper technique to her church group near her home in Thomasville!
Libby Smith
Libby joined DeVaney dentistry in Feburary of 2011 with 7 years prior experience. She earned her Dental Assistant II certification in 2004, including radiography and coronal polishing at Wake Forest University. Libby applies her skills in both the clinical and administrative areas for our practice, working at the front desk as well as assisting Dr DeVaney with patients.
Libby is married with two teenage children and enjoys spending time with them and her several Godchildren as well. Her hobbies include photography, so don't be suprised if she is snapping some pictures of your bright smile after she has performed a procedure on your teeth!
